8-by-Meat

For those of you outside California, Nevada, and Arizona, In-N-Out Burger may sound like just a funny name for a burger franchise, but for us White-castleless folks here, it's one of the best places to go for a burger. Why? Because all the ingredients are fresh.

In-N-Out is not without a little of its own schtick, though. It does one thing and it does it well: burgers. Patties are about 1/8th of a pound each and the only real variations between the offerings on their menus are the number of patties and whether or not it has cheese. You can have them garden style (i.e.: low carb, substituting lettuce instead of a bun)

The Double Double is a two-patty two-cheese burger, roughly equivalent to a McDonald's Quarter Pounder, only much tastier. Cheeseless burgers are referred to as "meat", such as Double Meat. You can get bigger ones, but they're not listed on the menu, but you end up with names like "Three-by-three" and "Four-by-Four".

On Tuesday, with Jagran, sarasai, and Victor, I had a Four-by-Meat. Things got goofy during dinner and when Jagran and I went back for a second round, this ensued:

"I'd like a Four-by-Meat."

"Okay."

"Wait, can you do six?"

"Okay."

"How about eight?"

"Yeah..."

"Twelve?"

"Uh..."

"How high can you pile it?"

"Um, lemme check. [Aside: "Eight?" "Eight!"] Eight."

"Okay, gimme an Eight-by-Meat."

[Teller rings it up. Check out the total. It's the Burger of the Beast!]

"Would you like anything else with that?"

"No, I like the total just the way it is."

I wonder if they were the basis for the "Double-Meat Palace."
