The People in your Neighbourhood

I was out sick from work today, but had to go to the grocery store for some lemon and honey to make some tea -- I picked up a head cold on Thursday which is so predictable in that it always leads to the post-head cold sore throat for me. On my way to the store and back, in the middle of a weekday in Hoboken, I found myself in a really weird "these are the people in your neighbourhood" moment.

I work in Manhattan, which means that I leave in the morning and come home in the evening. Given my hours, I tend to come back after 7, often after 8, and usually sleep up until I have to go to work in the mornings. I discovered that I miss out on a lot of the culture that is around here. Today, I actually talked to a butcher and a couple of people in bakeries and delis, all places that are normally closed by the time I get back from work.

So I've got some fresh hot Italian sausage that I think I'll fold into a pasta dinner tonight, and I've got some great bread and mortadella for lunch tomorrow. Sweet.

Oh, and the lemon-honey tea was quite soothing.
