This is why I hate my old web host
Go on. Click the link. It's comical. I'm trying to bail off this guy's service. I'm asking him to change my domain so that it points to my new nameservers and he's trying to charge me $35 to sign up for a username and password that I can use on Tucows' OpenSRS site to make my own domain name changes. If I were within striking distance of Spring, TX, this guy would be so floored.
You can easily do this yourself - just use:https://sabrina.super.nu/fidpac/userpassword.htm

Making the Rounds
Another one of those emails that are making the rounds. I thought it was cute.
You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night. You pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for the bus:1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man (or) woman you have been dreaming about.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car?
Think before you continue reading. This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.
Hmmmmm, what would you do? Give it some thought, then scroll on down.
Or you could click on the link below to expand the entry.
This is all about thinking out of the box. You give the car to your friend to take the old lady to the hospital. You get out and wait with the person of your dreams.

Changes afoot
I'm about to piss off a bunch of you by doing some domain name jiggling, but after I publish this post, I'm moving the 'live' stuff over to http://www.cybermancy.net/cthb. Once that's up and running, I'm going to see about moving the cthb.org domain to point over to the site's new location. Some of the email addresses are going to die off or get moved. I hope that people will be able to follow along. Once I'm moved over there, I'll be overhauling the site design and implementing MovableType.
Iocane, she was a good ship, but I couldn't see her and I couldn't smell her and dammit, she's dissolving in the water.
Explanation: JP and I are pulling our creative energies into separate websites. We've been dissatisfied with CIHost for awhile, but haven't been able to beat the inertia to do something about it until now. Well, December actually, but that failed miserably and it's about time I sent another nasty letter to Syonic. Anyone have experience writing to the Better Business Bureau? Other things I can do to get my money back from Syonic in accordance with their agreement? Thinking Planet Feedback might not be a bad idea.

Piggy piggy piggy
I'd never be able to keep kosher because I'm too much into pork. Case in point: WWE Undressed is a WWE television special to be aired on Tuesday, 25 June, 9 p.m. ET on The National Network. Yeah, I'd fully intended to tape this show. What I hadn't expected was that the receptionist at my firm (she's a big wrestling fan) would be looking out for me and found out that they were taping the special at The World in Times Square on Friday. Yeah, I went and really lucked out on a place to stand.
If you don't want the special spoiled for you, don't hit the following link. Here are my photos and comments from the taping, posted partly because Karen (the receptionist) really wanted to get her Edge fix.
On a totally unrelated note, I stopped by a colleague's new apartment for a housewarming party Saturday night. Had a great time. Otherwise, it was a thoroughly unproductive weekend, though I managed to find a way to feel insecure about my job.

Mixed Feelings: USA 2, Mexico 0
Like a fool, I stayed up last night (or this morning) to watch the footie match between the US and Mexico all the way over in Korea. The game started at 2:30 a.m. locally and I turned off the TV at 4:20, right after the closing whistle. Not the brightest move I've ever made, but it's not the first time this World Cup that I've stayed up to watch a game.
The US was clearly dominated by the Mexicans in terms of play. The Mexicans held the ball for 70% of the time, yet they simply couldn't put the ball past Friedel. On the other side of the pitch, the US got a couple of very pretty goals. The first goal looked like blind luck when I saw it, but reading the reports this morning, it was apparently an intentional pass out to McBride who drove it home. I have to say, excellent execution on the two goals (the other was a header by Donovan on a cross from the left) by the US. They really made their 30% of possession count.
Alas, I was half hoping the Mexicans would win because they seem like such a spirited team where as the American team seemed soulless. I'm not sure how to explain it. The sense is that they execute well and they play well, but they seem to lack the passion that the European and Latin American teams exhibit. It's like trash talking in basketball and fighting in hockey. It's not a necessary part of the game, but it's fun to watch. I guess I just wanted to see the more spirited team advance. The US kiss like dead fish.
That being said, though, I hope they whup Germany's ass on Friday because... well, Germans should stick to making beer and luxury cars. ;)
Who do I want to win? Brazil. Oh yeah...

I need a costume
There's a series of foot races in Manhattan called the Chase Corporate Challenge. I'm not sure what the prizes are or what it raises money for, but there are a number of people at the office that participate. I don't because I suck at running, as in if I ran I'd be sucking in my lungs. At any rate, one of the guys here has agreed to wear a Flash costume the next time he runs. Our problem is we can't find a Flash costume to put him in.
We're looking for something spandexy, with a lightning bolt and circle on the chest, with a kind of hood/cowl that leaves his lower face exposed with some lightning bolts by the ears. Red boots might be nice too, though given the running, maybe something that can cover up running shoes would suffice. Anyone know where we can get something like this?

This is so cute...
A little cat singing. Maudlin.
On the flip side, here's an anatomically correct bear. I remember a chemistry teacher in High School that used something like this. We were talking about moles, a chemical unit of measure equal to 6.0 x 10^23 particles, and he was introducing the concept that moles varied in size. He had some small stuffed moles and some large stuffed moles. Then he introduced the concept of fractional moles. He said, "They don't even have to be whole moles," and proceeded to rip one of the moles in half.

PAIN! AUUUUUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
But first: Holy Shit! A Godamned Monkeybot!
So, why does it suck to be me right now?
Last Thursday was decently mundane. I went out to grab some dinner after work and stayed out for awhile before heading home by way of the PATH train to Hoboken. Normally, the commute isn't bad and I've done it many a time before at all hours of the night. It being around 10 pm didn't concern me.
As I was walking home from the PATH station in Hoboken, a walk that generally takes about 20-25 minutes over 11 blocks uptown and 3 blocks over, I was accosted by three men that were intent on relieving me of my cash. Ordinarily, as if this were the sort of thing that could be ordinary, I would surrender the cash and move on. It certainly didn't seem worth the violence to avoid it. However, money's really tight for me right now and I'd just taken cash out of the ATM so handing over some $200-300 would have set me back really badly.
Plus, I was in a pissy mood.
The long and the short of it is that there was a fight. I think I got the drop on them because the first guy went down pretty fast. Admittedly, I shoved a heel right into his solar plexus pretty forcefully. That was all I got out of surprise, though. I haven't sparred since high school, when I did Taekwondo, so I was totally unprepared for this. I did what I could, which meant that I had some moves, but not a lot of coordination. I certainly didn't have any preparation for multiple opponents. While tangling with one guy, I got pummeled pretty hard by his friend. I got free, though, and once I had some distance between them, the fight was more on my terms. I never thought an elbow would be quite so effective, but I'm pretty sure I broke something on the one guy's face. There was blood everywhere. The other guy ran after that.
We all pretty much ran off after that. They certainly weren't staying around and I didn't really want to have to answer questions to the police.
What did I get out of all of this? I still have my money, my dignity, and some pride, but I also have a really fucking sore left shoulder. From about the hairline down to the ribs on the left, it's all sore and consistently painful. It's most pronounced right at the neck and top of the shoulder toward the back. I don't remember what the muscle is called. I've been walking around stiff necked since Sunday. It hadn't been bad at first, but it got progressively worse. This morning, I awoke at 5:30 because it was too painful to sleep any longer. Rolling out of bed involved screaming in agony. The bus ride to work was murder.
I've called the doctor but the earliest I could get an appointment was Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. In the meantime, I've gotten a few suggestions from coworkers (sleep on the floor, don't use a pillow, put an Icy Hot on it) and I've scheduled a massage session tonight at 6:30. I hope this goes away because I really don't like living in pain, having to turn my entire body every time I want to look at something that's not in my direct line of vision.
That's my story. You can blame Liz for its telling.
[Now, wasn't that a lot more interesting than if I said I think I just slept on it funny?]
